A hybrid randomized protocol for RFID tag identification
نویسندگان
چکیده
Purpose – Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a technology for tracking objects that is expected to be widely adopted in very near future. A reader device sends probes to a set of RFID tags, which then respond to the request. A tag is recognized only when it is the only one to respond to the probe. Only reader has collision detection capability. The problem considered here is to minimize the number of probes necessary for reading all the tags, assuming that the number of tags is known in advance. Design/methodology/approach – Well known binary and n-ary partitioning algorithms can be applied to solve the problem for the case of known number of tags. A new randomized hybrid tag identification protocol has been proposed, which combines the two partitioning algorithms into a more efficient one. The new scheme optimizes the binary partition protocol for small values of n (e.g. n 1⁄4 2, 3, 4). The hybrid scheme then applies n-ary partition protocol on the whole set, followed by binary partition on the tags that caused collision. Findings – It is analytically proved that the expected number of time slots in the hybrid algorithm with known number of users is less than 2.20 n. Performance of these algorithms was also evaluated experimentally, and an improvement from en to approximately 2.15 n was obtained. Originality/value – The algorithm shown here is efficient both by theory and practice and outperforms existing ones.

In this paper, an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) base band processor for a passive tag is presented. It proposes a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag digital base band architecture which is compatible with the EPC C C2/ISO18000-6B protocol. Several design approaches such as clock gating technique, clock strobe design and clock management are used. In order to reduce the area Decimal Matrix C...
متن کاملQTDFS-ALOHA: A Hybrid Collision Resolution Protocol for Dense RFID Tag Environment
Proposed protocols work clumsily in resolving the collisions occurred in dense RFID tag environment. QTDFS-ALOHA, a hybrid protocol which combines the query tree protocol and the dynamic frame slot ALOHA protocol, is proposed. In each frame of this protocol, only tags in the active set are allowed to answer in randomly selected slots. Afterwards, the population of tags in the active set is esti...
متن کاملAnalysis and Construction of Efficient RFID Authentication Protocol with Backward Privacy
Privacy of RFID systems is receiving increasing attentions in the RFID community and an important issue required as to the security of RFID system. Backward privacy means the adversary can not trace the tag later even if he reveals the internal states of the tag sometimes before. In this paper, we analyze two recently proposed RFID authentication schemes: Randomized GPS and Randomized Hashed GP...
متن کاملAn optimal probabilistic solution for information confinement, privacy, and security in RFID systems
In this paper, we provide the following contributions to enhance the security of RFID based systems. First, we assume that among multiple servers storing the information related to the tags some of them can be compromised. For this new threat scenario, we devise a technique to make RFID identification server dependent, providing a different unique secret key shared by a tag and a server. The so...

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a new generation of automatic identification systems, based on wireless communication technology. In these systems all the tags using one communication channel to communicate with the reader. When two or more tags transmit their data to the reader simultaneously, their transmitted signals will collide. Resolving this collision has a direct impact on the ...
